Module 1 Refelction
In module 1, I was instructed to read and familiarize myself further with the different types of computers. With my given past, I had no problem grasping what each subset of computers is used for. I am in constant use of a Handheld Device and a Personal Computer and am relatively familiar with Servers. The only two catagories I have never had actual, hands-on experience with were Supercomputers and Mainframes. In my reading I learned that these two types of computers overlap in a few of the applications that they can be used in. Both are made for high-level and high-quantity calculations and storage of a large amount of data. It seems as though a Supercomputer is to a Mainframe as a Personal Computer is to a Handhelp device: Bigger, faster, and less portable. Mainframes, unfortunately, cannot handle some of the extremely high calculation-intense needs of weather forecasting, oil exploration, and digital animation. This is where the supercomputer excells.
